Sourcing Natural Stone Bathtubs and Fixtures from India: A Guide for Trade Buyers

Indian Panda marble oval ribbed stone bathtub carved by Stone Atelier By SKL in Jaipur

India has been a centre of stone carving for generations, and Rajasthan is at the heart of it. For trade buyers, such as distributors, hospitality developers, architects and designers sourcing for clients abroad, the practical questions matter more than the heritage: what can be made, how long it takes, how it travels, and who is responsible for what once the piece leaves the workshop. This guide explains how sourcing natural stone fixtures from Stone Atelier By SKL works, from our production base in Jaipur to your project site.

What we make for export

Stone Atelier By SKL carves solid natural stone fixtures to order. Our range covers stone bathtubs, stone sinks and basins, stone benches and stone sculptures. Stones on offer include marbles such as Taj White, Italian Statuario, Calacatta Viola, Indian Panda, Forest Green, Indian Black and Black Marquina, along with Beige Travertine and Moca Creme Limestone. Not every stone is priced on every product, so the best starting point is to tell us the product and stone you have in mind.

Why source from a made-to-order workshop

We do not hold finished inventory. Each piece is carved after the order is confirmed, which means the stone selection, finish and, for many products, the dimensions can be matched to your specification. For a trade buyer this removes the guesswork of buying stock that may not suit a project. It also means planning ahead: the lead time is production time, not warehouse time.

Production and lead times

Production takes 6 to 8 weeks from receipt of the first instalment. Bespoke commissions can take longer depending on scale and finish, and we confirm timelines at the time of order. These are good-faith estimates, so for projects with a fixed opening or handover date, we suggest ordering well ahead of when you need the piece on site.

How heavy stone travels

Solid stone is heavy. A full-size bathtub commonly exceeds 350 kg once crated, so it cannot move like a parcel. Heavy pieces travel by sea in a protective crate, handled by a specialist freight forwarder, while smaller sculptures may go by air. Sea freight typically adds a further 4 to 10 weeks depending on destination and routing, and remote destinations needing onward feeder or barge services take longer. When you plan a project timeline, add production time and transit time together.

Pricing, Incoterms and duties

Prices on our website are for the piece only, ex-works from our Jaipur workshop. Freight and insurance are quoted for each order once we know the delivery address, because they vary a great deal by destination and by the weight of the piece. Import duties, customs clearance, port charges and local taxes are the buyer's responsibility and differ by country, so please check them with your customs broker early. Unless agreed otherwise in writing, we work on CIF or DAP terms under Incoterms 2020, and we do not sell on DDP terms. If you are buying for a client project, for resale or for export onward, tell us before ordering so we can issue the correct commercial documentation.

What we supply, and what your team handles

We supply goods only and do not install. Delivery is to an agreed access point that a standard vehicle can reach. Before dispatch we provide written installation guidance covering handling, lifting points, floor loading, bedding, sealing and aftercare, so your own contractor can plan properly. Moving a piece inside a building, rigging, plumbing and final placement sit with your contractor. For heavy pieces, it is worth checking the delivery route and the load capacity of the finished location before you order.

How to start a trade enquiry

The quickest way to get an accurate quote is to share the products and stones you are considering, the quantity, your delivery country and city, and your target date. With those details we can confirm availability of the stone, the production window and a freight estimate. Weight and dimensions for any piece are available on request before you order.
