Most people find us through a single piece, a bathtub they cannot stop thinking about or a basin they saw in a friend's home. What they discover next is that Stone Atelier By SKL is a complete collection. Every bathtub, sink, bench and sculpture is carved by hand from natural marble, travertine or granite, made to order, and finished in the same unhurried way. This guide walks through all four categories so you can see how they relate, and how a single stone can carry through an entire space.
One Philosophy Across Four Categories
Every piece begins as a solid block of quarried stone and ends as a finished form that has been shaped by hand. Nothing is cast, seamed or assembled from parts. The veining you see on the surface runs through the whole piece, which is why no two pieces are ever identical, even when they share a design and a stone.
We do not hold finished stock. Each piece is cut once your order is confirmed, in the stone and dimensions you choose, and production typically takes six to eight weeks. That rhythm suits architects, interior designers and homeowners who plan a room carefully and want the fixtures to feel specific to it.
Featured Pieces from the Collection
If you would like to see the range at a glance, these five pieces show how the same hand-carved approach carries across bathing, washing, seating and sculpture.
1. Monolithic Stone Freestanding Bathtub
A freestanding oval carved from a single block, designed to anchor a larger bathroom as its quiet centrepiece. The wall, the basin and the rim are one continuous surface, so the veining runs through the whole tub without a seam.
- Size: 1750 x 850 x 600 mm
- Weight and capacity: approximately 340 kg and 300 litres
- Stones: available across our range of natural marbles and travertine
- Made to order: typically six to eight weeks
2. Compact Stone Soaking Bathtub
Built for smaller bathrooms, this soaking tub gives you the same solid stone presence in a more compact footprint. Stone holds heat well, so the water stays warm for longer and the surface feels warm to the touch.
- Length: 5 to 6 ft
- Three standard shapes: oval (1525 x 1040 x 610 mm), rectangular (1525 x 815 x 460 mm) and corner
- Stones: a choice of natural marbles and travertine
- Made to order: typically six to eight weeks
3. Cascada Sculptural Stone Sink
A long wall-mounted trough with the fall of the bowl worked by hand, so water sheets evenly to the drain instead of pooling. Cut from one continuous piece, it reads as a single sculpted object rather than a fitting dropped into a counter.
- Size: 1100 x 500 x 180 mm
- Stones: eleven natural stones to choose from
- Finish: honed matte or polished
- Fitting: tap placement and drain position confirmed against your plumbing before cutting
4. Corridor Marble Bench
An elongated bench made for hallways and entrance galleries. Seat and support are carved from the same block, so there is no joint to loosen over time, and it behaves more like a piece of architecture than furniture.
- Length: 6 to 7 ft
- Made to measure: width, height and seat height are made to order
- Finishes: polished, honed or leather
- Care: an occasional reseal, roughly once a year
5. Aperture, Cleft Face Bust
A figurative piece with an abstract cleft running through the face, carved by hand in a subtractive process where nothing is added to the stone, only removed. The character of the block shapes the final form, so no two busts are identical.
- Height: 3 to 4 ft
- Made to order: width and depth are not fixed
- Finishes: polished, honed or leather
- Placement: we can advise on positioning from photos of your space
Stone Bathtubs: The Centrepiece
Our stone bathtubs are carved from a single block, so the wall you rest against and the basin beneath you are one continuous surface. Two silhouettes anchor the range. The Compact Stone Soaking Bathtub is built for smaller bathrooms and comes in three standard shapes: oval, rectangular and corner. The Monolithic Stone Freestanding Bathtub is an oval of 1750 x 850 x 600 mm, designed to anchor a larger room.
Twelve stones are available across the collection, from pale Taj White and warm Beige Travertine to dramatic Black Marquina and rare Calacatta Viola. Because a solid stone tub is far heavier than an acrylic one, we share exact weight and crate dimensions before you order, and we are happy to speak with your architect or contractor about floor loading early in the planning.
Stone Sinks: Carved, Not Dropped In
The stone sink collection is built around the Cascada, a sculptural wall-mounted trough measuring 1100 x 500 x 180 mm. The bowl is hollowed from one block and the fall is worked by hand so water sheets evenly to the drain. There is no seam or join, so the veining carries around the rim without interruption.
Eleven natural stones are offered for the basin, each in a honed matte or polished finish. We work from your measurements, and we confirm tap placement and drain position against your plumbing before the stone is cut. A wall-mounted stone basin carries real weight, so we also confirm the recommended mounting method in advance.
Stone Benches: Architecture You Can Sit On
A stone bench behaves less like furniture and more like a fixed piece of architecture. Seat and support are carved from the same block, so there is no joint to loosen over time. Five designs are available as a starting point: the Travertine Bench, the Pool Bench for poolside and exterior settings, the Instrumental Marble Bench, the sculptural Football Marble Bench, and the elongated Corridor Marble Bench made for hallways and entrance galleries.
Benches are typically made at 6 to 7 feet in length, with width, height and seat height made to order. Each can be finished polished, honed or leather, and most clients start from one of the five forms and adjust the proportions to suit their space.
Stone Sculptures: Where the Carver's Hand Shows
The sculpture collection is the most personal part of the atelier. Carving is a subtractive process, so what remains is entirely the result of the carver's decisions and the character of that particular block. Current works include Aperture, a cleft face bust; Continuum, a green marble loop; Meridian, a totem set of three graduated columns; Wayfarer, a figure with a ring; Confluence, a twin face sculpture; and Eclipse Flow, a Black Marquina marble piece mounted on a matching marble base.
Both figurative and abstract commissions are welcome. Many clients begin with a photograph or a rough sketch of the feeling they want, and we help translate it into a finished form in the right stone.
Choosing Pieces That Belong Together
Because every category draws on the same family of stones, it is easy to build a coherent room. A Taj White bathtub with a matching Cascada basin reads calm and bright. A Black Marquina bathtub with a travertine bench offers contrast. A single sculpture in the same stone as the tub can tie a hallway to the bathroom beyond it.
Finish matters as much as stone. A honed surface hides water spots and feels softer underfoot, while a polished surface reflects more light and reads more formal. If you are specifying several pieces for one project, tell us the full scope at the start and we will help you keep stone, finish and proportions consistent.
Ordering, Delivery and Care
All four categories follow the same path: you share your stone, size and finish, we confirm the details and a firm timeline, and production begins. Pieces ship crated with specialist freight and insurance, and we coordinate white-glove placement in select regions. Care is simple across the range: wipe with a mild pH neutral cleaner, avoid acidic or abrasive products sitting on the surface, and reseal roughly once a year depending on use.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I order pieces from more than one collection together?
Yes. Many clients pair a bathtub and basin, or add a bench or sculpture to the same project. Tell us the full scope up front and we can keep stone and finish consistent across every piece.
How long does production take?
Bathtubs, sinks and benches are cut to order and typically take six to eight weeks from confirmation. Sculptures vary with scale and complexity, so we confirm a realistic timeline once the design and stone are set.
Do you keep any pieces in stock?
No. Everything is made to order, which is why dimensions, stone and finish can be matched to your space rather than to a fixed catalogue size.
Can I request a custom size or a stone that is not listed?
Yes. Dimensions can be adjusted because each piece is cut from a fresh block. If a stone you like is not listed, ask us, as most quarried stones can be sourced on request, though lead time and price will vary.
How do I get a price?
Price depends on the piece, the stone, the size and any customization, so the most accurate route is to share your requirements and request a quote. We would rather confirm a figure for your exact specification than quote a number that does not apply.
Are all pieces suitable for outdoor use?
Not all. Dense stones such as granite handle exposure well, while travertine and some marbles are better indoors or under cover. The Pool Bench is designed for poolside and exterior use. Tell us where the piece will sit and we will recommend a suitable stone.
Do you deliver internationally?
Yes, we deliver worldwide. Every piece is crated and insured, and we share weight and crate dimensions ahead of delivery so you can plan access.
What finishes are available?
Most pieces come polished or honed, and benches and sculptures can also be finished in leather. We will confirm which finishes suit your chosen stone.
If you are planning a bathroom, a hallway, a garden or an entire project, we would love to help you shape the collection around it. Get in touch with your space, your preferred stones and any measurements you have, and we will guide you from there.
